Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Padjadjaran University (Unpad) has expelled a doctor studying in its Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS), Bandung, following the filing of a sexual violence case by a patient's family.

Unpad Chancellor, Professor Arief S. Kartasasmita, said that the decision to dismiss the student reflects the institution's firm stance in responding to sexual violence allegations and violations of the law and norms.

"We are deeply concerned about this case. We will not tolerate any form of violation," he stressed in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Although the legal process is still on, with no court decision yet, Kartasasmita said that his party has sufficient indications and grounds to slap academic sanctions in the form of study termination.

"We have an internal rule stating that every student, lecturer, or employee who commits a criminal act will be subject to sanctions according to applicable regulations," the professor emphasized.

Unpad assured that the doctor, identified with the initials PIP, is no longer a student at the university. He is also not allowed to conduct any activities on campus and at the teaching hospital.

Kartasasmita said that Unpad will provide assistance to the victim and is coordinating with the RSHS and the police to ensure the legal process runs fairly and transparently.

"We are concerned and express our deep regret to the victim and the family," he added.

In addition, the university will strengthen the supervision system for the education process at both specialist and non-specialist levels.

"We do not want similar cases recurring, either in the Unpad environment or in other places that are part of Unpad education, including in the educational community," he emphasized.

According to him, the case is not merely related to academic aspects but also concerns the supervision and guidance of students at teaching hospitals.

"The person concerned came from the Anesthesiology Study Program. We have coordinated with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the president director of RSHS, and the Ministry of Health. This case is being handled comprehensively," he assured.
