"The world is currently moving towards bilateralism, partly driven by the geopolitical rivalry between the United States and China," Vermonte noted in a statement here on Thursday.
He noted that although bilateralism can help the two countries navigate uncertainties and the impact of geopolitical rivalry, the world's complexities cannot be addressed by just two nations.
Vermonte noted that Indonesia and Türkiye have strong capital to continue prioritizing the spirit of multilateralism amid increasingly complex global dynamics.
Both countries are known to consistently encourage peaceful resolution, dialogue, and inclusivity, making them key partners in strengthening international cooperation.
He further highlighted that as influential middle powers, both countries have a significant voice on matters of reforming the UN, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and other multilateral institutions.
In addition, Indonesia and Türkiye have strategic relations with like-minded countries, including active participation in the MIKTA forum to realize a fairer international system that is more responsive to the needs of developing countries.
