Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto assessed that the emotional relations between Indonesia and Turkiye are quite deep, stemming from 75 years of diplomatic relations that began during the Ottoman Empire.

Prabowo expressed this sentiment during a bilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his delegation at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Wednesday.

"This year coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Turkiye. Relations between the two countries had been ongoing since the Ottoman Empire's reign. Emotional relations between the two countries are quite deep," Prabowo noted in his statement.

In his remarks, the president honored the state visit made by Erdogan and his delegation to Indonesia on February 11-12.

Prabowo also humorously noted that he should have made an official visit to Turkiye first, considering that Erdogan was re-elected as president in 2023 and has been the longest-serving president in Turkiye after leading for 20 years.

"I should have come first on an official visit to Turkiye because President Erdogan is a senior president. However, I thank you for your visit," Prabowo stated.

During Erdogan's state visit to Indonesia, the two leaders also convened the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC).

According to Prabowo, the bilateral and HLSCC meetings are manifestations of the strong and solid partnership between Indonesia and Turkiye.

"On Wednesday, we also have the first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meeting. Once again, thank you. Indonesia does not have many regular bilateral mechanisms at the head-of-state level," Prabowo remarked.

During the meeting, the president was accompanied by ministers from his Red and White Cabinet: Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar.

Also in attendance were Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Indonesian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkiye Achmad Rizal Purnama.
