At a press conference in Beijing on Friday (April 18), the ministry's spokesperson, Lin Jian, shared the information, stating that Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi and National Defense Minister Dong Jun will host the Indonesian envoys on April 21.
The upcoming dialogue is officially called the First Ministerial Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue.
Lin emphasized that this will be the first 2+2 dialogue organized by China, reflecting Beijing’s strong commitment to its strategic partnership with Indonesia.
"Last year, President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto held two meetings and agreed to organize the First Ministerial Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue as soon as possible," he noted.
Highlighting the celebration of 75 years of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations this year, Lin described the two countries as close and reliable partners separated only by the sea.
"During the meeting, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and National Defense Minister Dong Jun, along with Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, are expected to exchange views on bilateral security and political cooperation, international and regional collaboration, and other key issues," he remarked.
Lin further assured that China is ready to work with Indonesia to make the most of the dialogue to deepen friendship, mutual trust, and strategic coordination.
Earlier, on January 22, Defense Minister Sjamsoeddin held talks with his Chinese counterpart, exploring avenues for bilateral military cooperation, including technology transfers and enhanced soldier-to-soldier engagement.
Under the administration of the seventh president, Joko Widodo, then-foreign minister Retno Marsudi maintained close coordination with China through five rounds of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC).
Marsudi and Wang Yi attended the most recent JCBC session on August 24 of last year.
On that occasion, Marsudi assured China that Jakarta would continue to strengthen its ties with Beijing following the power transition from Widodo to Prabowo, who was inaugurated as president in October.
She stated that this commitment stems from the mutually beneficial nature of Indonesia-China relations, as reflected in the over US$37 billion of Chinese investment received by Indonesia between 2014 and 2024.
