The Indonesian Army’s Special Force Command (Kopassus) marked its 73rd anniversary by hosting a playground event with various amusement rides for four thousand children, including orphans.
A Kopassus soldier guided each group of children as they enjoyed the rides set up at a stadium within the special force headquarters in East Jakarta.
“We want you all to have fun, play together, and try some rides that may be new to you. Some of you may have been dreaming of trying these rides,” Kopassus Commander Major General Djon Afriandi remarked as he welcomed the children on Saturday.
Afriandi informed reporters that, in addition to orphans, the children included sons and daughters of Kopassus soldiers currently serving across four units of the special force: Cijantung, Serang, Kartasura, and Batujajar.
He emphasized that the anniversary celebration aimed to deliver a message of love to orphans and inspire them to dream big.
“Our message to the orphans is that they are not alone. They deserve to have hopes and dreams to strive for. They should know that many people, including us from Kopassus, are here for them,” he affirmed.
The commander expressed hope that this event would foster connections between orphans and the children of Kopassus personnel while breaking down psychological barriers.
He further noted that the event also served to remind the public that Kopassus soldiers are not only the protectors of national security but also members of society with a duty to serve the people.
“We are present not only to safeguard the country but also to bring smiles to children,” he stated.
During the celebrations, the Kopassus operated a Ferris wheel, trampolines, slides, and other amusement rides. Moreover, the army force also provided odong-odong – child-themed modified vehicles – to transport children around the stadium.
Additionally, the Kopassus prepared free snacks and distributed bags to the children.
