"If we possess AI literacy, it means we can interpret everything produced by AI. It is not that we should ignore AI usage; that is not my message," Deputy Minister Christie stated during her scientific oration at YARSI University's graduation ceremony here on Saturday.
Christie explained that AI literacy involves critical and analytic thinking in its practical application, including verifying or cross-checking data outputs from AI systems.
She highlighted AI literacy's critical role for the education sector as it navigates the era of AI use.
Beyond AI literacy, AI users must develop decision-making skills to prevent humans from being outpaced by AI, particularly given AI's superior data-processing and memory capabilities.
"What is very important is the thought process that incorporates the human perspective. In other words, if you do not want to be replaced by AI, you must be able to understand other humans," she explained.
She cited the example that in designing AI-based applications, it is essential to consider the human perspective in their usage. AI is just a tool, not a factor that should become the top priority.
Christie concluded that higher education institutions, as hubs for developing human resources that possess research-oriented thinking and producing a skillful workforce, must comprehensively understand AI usage.
