Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s state-owned Bali International Hospital (BIH) has recruited four Singaporean doctors as part of its effort to provide world-class medical services.

“The operation of BIH represents the convergence of global standards, Indonesian talent, and Balinese hospitality,” said Dewi Fankhuningdyah Fitriana, CEO of PT Pertamedika Bali Hospital, the hospital’s operating company, on Tuesday.

The four doctors—Dr. Robert Lim, Dr. Francis Chin Kuok Choon, Dr. Patricia Kho Sunn Sunn, and Dr. Tan Yew Oo—are cancer specialists. All have obtained licenses to practice at the international hospital, which is expected to begin services in May, according to Fitriana.

She noted that the oncologists will work alongside Indonesian specialists, including vascular surgeon Dr. Rio Marnoto, who spent 24 years studying and practicing in Munich, Germany.

BIH has already begun initial operations, offering services in oncology, cardiology, emergency care, integrated outpatient clinics, radiology and radiotherapy, as well as comprehensive medical checkups.

Additional medical specialties are expected to be introduced ahead of the hospital’s official inauguration in June.

Located in the Sanur Health Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the hospital spans 67,000 square meters and has a capacity of 255 beds. It is equipped with eight operating rooms, 38 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and four laboratories. The facility aims to serve as a medical tourism and referral destination for both domestic and international patients.

Fitriana said the hospital is expected to boost the local economy and elevate the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia.

According to projections by the National Special Economic Zone Council, by 2030, between 4–8 percent of Indonesians—around 123,000 to 240,000 people—who previously sought medical care abroad may choose to receive treatment locally, including at the Sanur SEZ.

By 2045, the Council expects the facility to contribute to foreign exchange savings of up to Rp86 trillion (approximately US$4.9 billion), while also generating an additional Rp19.6 trillion in foreign exchange earnings.
