Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Migrant Workers Protection Abdul Kadir Karding expressed hope here on Friday that Indonesian migrant workers will be prosperous and protected as the world marked International Workers' Day on May 1.

Karding made this statement while accompanying President Prabowo Subianto at the International Workers' Day celebration at the National Monument (Monas) Square on Thursday (May 1).

"Workers received many 'gifts' from the president. For example, discussions about the Domestic Workers Bill are promised to proceed more quickly," he stated in the ministry's press release.

At the event, Karding also voiced support for President Prabowo's plan to establish the National Workers Welfare Council and abolish outsourcing employment.

"Secondly, a National Workers Welfare Council will be formed. Thirdly, there is an opportunity to discuss the abolition of the outsourcing system," he stated.

Minister Karding, therefore, expressed hope that workers, especially migrant workers, would receive fuller protection, have all their rights fulfilled, and achieve prosperity.

"With this, we hope workers, including migrant workers, will have their rights protected, be safeguarded, and attain prosperity. Long live the workers. Let us unite to defend the nation," he stated.

The ministry earlier said it would focus on campaigning for safe pathways for Indonesians seeking to work abroad to better guarantee their protection.

Minister Karding even highlighted that efforts to improve protection for migrant workers are ongoing, aiming to prevent them from falling victim to exploitation and human trafficking.

He affirmed that the ministry will focus on intensifying campaigns for safe pathways for working abroad in areas that send the most migrant workers, such as Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Lampung, and East Nusa Tenggara.
