Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas) estimated that Indonesia will have four million green workers by 2025.

“By 2025, the number of green workers in Indonesia is projected to reach four million people, or 2.7 percent of the total workforce, and it could increase to more than 5.3 million people, or 3.14 percent, by 2029, in a high economic growth scenario,” Deputy Minister of Bappenas Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard stated here on Friday.

Ruddyard made this statement at Indonesia’s Green Jobs Development Roadmap launch during Indonesia’s Green Jobs Conference (IGJC) 2025: Turning Vision Into Action.

The number of jobs with the potential to become green is projected to reach 56 million in 2025 and 72 million by 2029.

According to the deputy minister, most Indonesian workers have significant potential to transition into green jobs, provided they receive the right technology, skills, and government policy support.

However, the transformation toward green jobs faces challenges, including low participation of women, a high share of informal employment, wage disparities, and social protection issues.

To address these challenges, Bappenas, with development cooperation and support from Germany, Australia, and the World Bank, launched the Indonesia Green Jobs Development Roadmap.

The short- and medium-term strategies outlined in the roadmap include aligning vocational training and education systems with the actual needs of the green labor market.

Ruddyard emphasized that the roadmap is part of collective efforts to realize Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045.

This roadmap serves as a strategic guide to prepare human resources to face the challenges in the transition to a green economy. It also serves as a national reference for developing integrated and inclusive policies, programs, and investments in human resources.
