She made the call in the framework of the International Workers’ Day 2025 event, noting that female workers often face the dual burden of being the backbone of their families as well as household managers.
“The government and the business world must create safe, humane, and inclusive workplaces, including for working mothers,” she said in a statement received here on Friday.
Maharani added that all female workers are entitled to equal opportunities in their careers and be free from discrimination, violence, and harassment in the workplace.
The House Speaker pointed out that the government’s commitment to protecting women workers, especially working mothers, is mandated by Law Number 4 of 2024 concerning the Welfare of Mothers and Children during the First Thousand Days of Life (UU KIA).
According to the law, the government and industry must provide special spaces for working mothers, such as lactation rooms, childcare facilities, adequate maternity leave, and family-friendly working hours, she added.

She then called for implementing the law in workplaces without limiting space for equality and justice for female workers.
“Women workers are not just laborers; they are the backbones of families and the future generation,” she emphasized.
She also reaffirmed that the government must ensure that workplaces become fair, safe, and prosperous environments for female workers by continuously supporting the principles of equality and justice.
Lastly, she urged policymakers to ensure worker welfare, including fair wages, comfortable and safe working conditions, health insurance, old-age security, and unemployment benefits.
