“I want to clarify that subsidized houses are not for the rich. These houses are (intended) for first-time homebuyers from the low-income community (MBR) who meet the criteria set by the government,” he remarked here on Friday.
The PKP Ministry will ensure that beneficiaries of subsidized houses are on target. Sirait said he would instruct his staff and the People's Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera) to verify that subsidized houses are occupied by eligible recipients.
This follows his field visits, which found many subsidized houses unoccupied and in sub-standard condition.
Sirait stated that he has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2025, which sets income limits for MBR eligibility for subsidized housing. This regulation aims to expand housing access for the community and stimulate the housing market in Indonesia.
“We thank the BP Tapera and banks who have accommodated mortgage lenders for enabling more people to own decent homes. This year, we target 220 thousand subsidized houses for the community, and we will continue to strive to increase this quota,” he affirmed.
Sirait also stressed his commitment to realizing President Prabowo Subianto’s Three Million Houses Program by involving all relevant parties.
To achieve this, the ministry will collaborate with various ministries, such as the Manpower Ministry for workers’ housing, the Agriculture Ministry for farmers’ housing, and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs for journalists’ housing.
“We are not just holding groundbreaking ceremonies but directly handing over keys to subsidized houses for MBR,” he stated.
