Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Culture Ministry used the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) event held in Mumbai, India on May 2, 2025, to strengthen the country's diplomacy through cultural channels.

When delivering a speech at the 2025 WAVES Global Media Dialogue, Minister Fadli Zon stated that cultural diplomacy is a powerful tool for building peace and global resilience.

To this end, as informed in the ministry's press release received here on Sunday, he emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to successfully carry out diplomacy efforts through cultural channels.

While in India, Minister Zon also held meetings with stakeholders in the cultural field in an effort to build collaboration with each other.

Among others, he met with the Indian Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw; businessman, real estate developer, and filmmaker Uraaz Bahl; and Rakesh Swami, leader of the Godrej Industries Group.

In addition, he held meetings with officials from the National Film Development Corporation of India and the National Museum of Indian Cinema, and discussed with Regional Director JAPAC Spotify HQ Mumbai Vineeta Dixit.

"Learning from India, we must be able to build a cultural ecosystem that strategically connects artists, industry, and technology," Zon said.

According to him, it is important to continue to strengthen production capacity, expand market access, and support cultural actors to adapt to digital developments.

He also explained that WAVES 2025 has produced a declaration that includes a joint commitment to strengthening cultural and linguistic diversity and expanding access to inclusive media.

The declaration also contains a joint commitment to utilizing AI and new technologies responsibly, combating disinformation, and strengthening the media sector's contribution to sustainable development goals.
