“Programs that enhance access to quality teacher development must be implemented consistently to provide better educational services,” Moerdijat stated in a written message received here on Sunday.
Moerdijat said that during the 2025 National Education Day commemoration on May 2, the government officially launched an educational assistance program for teachers who have not yet completed a bachelor's degree (S1) or an equivalent diploma (D4)."
She explained that the government stated that there are 12 thousand spots available in the program.
Moerdijat stressed the importance of effectively and accurately implementing the program so that it truly addresses the shortage of qualified teachers in many regions.
She pointed out the importance of making sure that the program's information reached the teachers who would benefit from it the most, through clear and targeted communication.
According to Moerdijat, the government recorded a shortage of 1.3 million teachers across Indonesia in 2024. This deficit is due to factors such as retirements, limited recruitment, and unequal teacher distribution.
She noted that the educational aid program is a strategic measure to address the shortfall in both the quantity and quality of teachers.
Moerdijat also called on stakeholders at both the central and regional levels to maintain a strong commitment to delivering quality education services, aiming to nurture a future generation that is globally competitive.
The teacher scholarship initiative is one of four major programs introduced by the government during this year’s National Education Day. Other initiatives include school revitalization, education digitalization, and assistance for contract-based teachers.
