Bandar Lampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the government is currently finalizing the decent housing program for people living in poverty and extreme poverty.

"The social programs initiated by the president are always supported by regional heads. One of them is the implementation of the decent housing program," he stated in Bandar Lampung, Lampung, on Monday.

He explained that the program also contributes to strengthening the growth of the local economy and improving the community's welfare.

"Hopefully, it can be implemented smoothly, and the concept is currently being finalized. Thus, while the children are enrolled in Sekolah Rakyat (government's tuition-free schools), the parents are supported with decent housing," he remarked.

He further explained that, in addition to the decent housing program and the Sekolah Rakyat program, there are other regular programs aligned with President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita missions regarding healthy sanitation and decent housing.

The programs for people living below the poverty line are also complemented by programs run by regional governments.

"Governors, district heads, and mayors in their respective regions can have their own program in accordance with the local wisdom there, so that the community's welfare can improve," the minister stated.

The Indonesian government is committed to building three million houses in the 2025-2029 period, comprising two million units in rural areas and one million units in urban areas nationwide.

The program is designed to address the housing backlog and provide decent and affordable housing for low-income residents, with implementation led by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).
