Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, emphasized that the government’s housing program for low-income communities must be developed holistically, ensuring the provision of shared spaces that support the health, environment, and psychosocial well-being of families.

"We support this three million housing program, and in accordance with the duties and functions of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, we encourage housing programs that are not only about quantity, but also the quality of the residential environment,” she said here on Sunday.

“Families must feel the benefits of development, for example through community centers that can be used together," she added.

According to her, community-based development plays a crucial role in changing people's lifestyles in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

Veronica Tan also highlighted that the Indonesian Shared Space (RBI), present in residential areas, is an example of a bottom-up program that supports development starting from the grassroots level and directly benefits the surrounding community.

"In addition to the initiative from the central government, RBI also opens up space for participation from various levels of society, including psychologists, sports instructors, academics from universities, to local governments from the provincial to village levels. With this collaboration, these shared spaces will be more beneficial in terms of public housing,” she noted.

The Indonesian government is committed to building three million houses in the 2025-2029 period, comprising two million units in rural areas and one million units in urban areas.

The program aims to overcome the housing backlog and provide decent and affordable housing for low-income people, which is entrusted to the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP).

In addition, the self-help housing financing scheme in rural areas will be expanded, while housing development in urban areas will adopt the concept of transit-oriented development and consider urban renewal.
