"The outcome of this PUIC will be what we call the Jakarta Declaration," Chair of the DPR Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), Mardani Ali Sera, stated during the 19th PUIC Conference at the parliamentary complex here on Tuesday.
However, he noted that some parties have proposed naming the joint declaration of the OIC member parliaments the "Senayan Declaration" since the conference is being held at the parliament building in Jakarta.
"Some have suggested calling it the Senayan Declaration because it is taking place in Senayan," he remarked.
Sera further explained that choosing the DPR building as the venue for the 19th PUIC Conference demonstrates Indonesia’s support for President Prabowo Subianto’s administration's budget efficiency policy.
"Why Senayan? Because we are in support of President Prabowo’s efficiency program. We already have the venue (the DPR building) here," he added.
Moreover, the BKSAP Chair noted that many parliamentary delegates from OIC countries expressed admiration for the DPR complex, which is both green and strategically located in central Jakarta.
"Most delegates commented that they were impressed. The complex is large, green, centrally located, and has excellent meeting facilities," he stated.
The 19th PUIC Conference is being held at the parliament building in Senayan, Jakarta, on May 12-15, with the theme "Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience."
Coinciding with the silver jubilee of the PUIC's founding in 1999, the conference is being attended by 450 parliamentary delegates from 38 OIC member countries, including 10 observer nations.
