"The resolution of the Palestine-Israel conflict is a key issue that demands our collective attention, including ending the war in Gaza and ensuring humanitarian aid access," Maharani remarked here on Tuesday.
Maharani held separate bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from Algeria, Bahrain, Oman, and the Czech Republic (attending as an observer) at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Delegation Room, Parliamentary Complex.
The 19th PUIC Conference is being held at the parliament building in Senayan, Jakarta, on May 12-15, with the theme "Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience."
Coinciding with the silver jubilee anniversary of the PUIC since its establishment in 1999, the conference is being attended by 450 parliamentary delegates from 38 OIC member countries, including 10 observer nations.
Maharani's discussions with the parliamentary leaders covered a range of issues, including international dynamics, regional and global stability, strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, and support for Palestinian independence.
In the first meeting, Maharani spoke with the President of Algeria’s People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, followed by talks with Ahmed bin Salman Al Musalam, Speaker of the Bahrain Council of Representatives.
She then met with Khalid Hilal Nasser Al Maawali, Chairman of the Oman Shura Council, and lastly with Jan Skopecek, vice chairman of the Czech Parliament Chamber of Deputies.
During her meeting with Boughali, Maharani recalled the historic ties between Indonesia and Algeria, especially the staunch support of Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, for Algeria’s independence movement, which succeeded in 1962.
"Indonesia and Algeria have a long-standing relationship rooted in shared struggles for decolonization and South-South solidarity," she noted.
