"Kadin will set up a standard operational procedure on regional (branch) involvement in investment projects, including an ethics code on interacting with investors and contractors," the agency noted in a written statement on Wednesday.
This announcement follows reports of intimidation last week by individuals claiming to represent Kadin's Cilegon branch in Banten against PT Chengda, the main contractor for PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), which is developing an investment project in the city.
Videos circulating widely on social media show these individuals demanding that the company immediately award them projects worth trillions of rupiah outside the formal tender process.
Condemning the coercion, Kadin has promised to form a team to evaluate the actions and roles of Kadin's Cilegon City branch and its affiliates. If they are found to violate the regulations, Kadin may impose sanctions and penalize those responsible for intimidating investors.
The chamber will also conduct an internal audit of Kadin's Banten provincial and Cilegon municipal branches.
"The audit report will be submitted to the Investment Ministry and the Banten Provincial government as our official clarification (regarding the incident)," according to Kadin.
Kadin Indonesia is committed to providing legal protection for investors to safeguard their interests and to prevent negative perceptions of the chamber and Indonesia's investment and business climate in general.
The chamber is also committed to upholding prevailing laws, supporting healthy investment, and protecting the organization's position as a strategic partner of the government.
