Purwakarta, W. Java (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is encouraging social media platforms to screen negative content to ensure a safe digital space for children.

"Their technology is more sophisticated, so we expect they will be the first to take down any negative content from their platforms," Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid stated here on Wednesday.

The government cannot work alone to make the digital realm child-friendly by taking down sites that negatively affect children.

Online platforms must cooperate in the efforts and sort their content so that children are exposed to good content on the Internet, she emphasized.

The government has been communicating with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok, asking them to follow its regulations on negative content.

Hafid said that so far during her term, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has taken down 1.4 million negative sites.

However, without supervision in the field, negative content can still spread on other platforms, she warned.

Therefore, she invited people with underage children who actively use gadgets to enforce healthy Internet rules.

Schools can also ban the use of cellphones during teaching and learning activities or within the school environment.

She expressed the hope that Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Electronic Systems Implementation in Child Protection would help reduce addiction to digital content and eradicate online gambling.
