"We have contacted Meta and the platform they operate, Facebook," Deputy Minister Angga Raka Prabowo said here on Friday.
As previously reported, one such group, Fantasi Sedarah (Incest Fantasy), has thousands of members sharing deviant incestuous fantasies and experiences. Condemnation came swift once the group's existence was revealed to the public.
Meta has responded to the government complaint and removed access to six Facebook groups promoting similar content, Prabowo said and urged other social media operators to take measures against such groups.
Condemning the proliferation of social media content that violates norms and national laws, he urged law enforcement agencies to investigate the people behind the groups.
"The groups are very disturbing and must not be tolerated. They are inhumane, and the police must investigate who is behind such groups," the deputy minister said.
Meanwhile, the ministry's director general for digital space monitoring, Alexander Sabar, said that the blocking of social media groups promoting incest porn is aimed at protecting children from digital content that could adversely affect their mental and emotional growth.
"We have been promptly coordinating with Meta to block the groups that spread thoughts that violate public norms," he said, adding that such groups constitute a major violation of children's rights.
Sabar affirmed that the ministry will bolster its social media monitoring and cross-sectoral engagements to ensure a safe and healthy digital space for all.
He also asked the people to help monitor the digital space and report any negative digital content or activities via the aduankonten.id platform.
