Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said on Monday that it has taken down nearly 380,000 items of pornographic content as of May 18, in an effort to maintain a safe, comfortable, and productive digital environment for all.

Alexander Sabar, Director General of Cyberspace Supervision at the ministry, stated that these items were part of 1.8 million pieces of harmful digital content removed since October 2024.

He emphasized that the ministry is prioritizing the swift removal of pornographic material to limit its spread online and to protect children from harmful exposure.

Sabar noted that the ministry recently received public reports regarding Facebook groups promoting explicit content, leading to the blocking of six such groups.

Since October 20, 2024, the ministry has blocked 29 Facebook groups, 50 accounts, and 19 posts for violating anti-pornography regulations, he added.

He also said that 17 accounts on the social media platform X were taken down for sharing similar content.

To further combat digital threats, the ministry has launched round-the-clock patrols to monitor and prevent the spread of inappropriate content online.

Sabar urged the public to support the government's efforts by reporting any harmful or illegal content they encounter.

He encouraged citizens to submit reports via the ministry’s official platform, aduankonten.id.

“Let us work hand in hand to safeguard Indonesia’s digital space, ensuring it remains a safe environment for our children and their future,” he said.
