"I informed that this project will be carried out 100 percent by our own people," he said at the 49th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention and Exhibition in Tangerang on Wednesday.
"This is not just a mathematical achievement, not a technical achievement, but a very important milestone in our ongoing efforts to achieve national energy self-sufficiency," he added.
Medco E&P Natuna Energy has invested nearly Rp10 trillion (US$612.6 million) in Forel and Terubuk.
The Forel and Terubuk oil fields are expected to produce 20 thousand barrels of oil and 60 million standard cubic feet of gas (MMSCFD) per day.
They are also expected to contribute to the achievement of the nationwide target of lifting one million barrels of oil per day in the next four to five years.
"This is the first inauguration of oil and gas lifting during the administration that I lead," Prabowo said.
He emphasized that realizing energy sufficiency and resilience is one of his priorities, in addition to food self-sufficiency.
According to the President, a strong country is a country that can meet its own food and energy needs.
"I always say that the sovereignty of a nation is guaranteed by its ability to provide food for its own people and meet its energy needs. The survival of a nation depends on these two things," he said.
To realize the vision of energy self-sufficiency, he called for collaboration between the government, the private sector, and state-owned enterprises.
"I encourage all stakeholders from within and outside the country; please utilize the opportunities that we provide," Prabowo said.
"We have also prepared a large investment fund from Danantara Indonesia, which is also ready to invest strategically in available energy projects, along with foreign partners, to drive our needs," he added.
