Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani highlighted the DPR's support for cooperation between the governments of Indonesia and China.

Maharani elaborated that one way the DPR supports this cooperation is by creating regulations that encourage investment from China in Indonesia.

"We will support the government's policies. Of course, those that are mutually beneficial for the two countries," she remarked after meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday.

According to the speaker, the DPR's support is motivated by the fact that China is the third-largest investor in Indonesia.

However, she stressed that Indonesia needs to increase investment in China through education and tourism.

"Earlier, it was also conveyed how we can boost the number of Chinese people visiting Indonesia and the number of Indonesian people visiting China," she stated, citing a topic discussed at the meeting.

Maharani further noted that her meeting with Li Qiang also covered the political and economic situation on a regional and global scale.

On that occasion, she noted that the Chinese Premier's visit to the Parliamentary Complex can strengthen ties between China and the people of Indonesia.

She said the visit can strengthen the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have existed since 1950.

She also mentioned that the cooperation between Indonesia and China has been established since the Asian-African Conference in 1955.

"At that time, both Indonesia and China wanted to support the freedom of developing countries in Asia-Africa, so that they could achieve independence," she remarked.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Indonesia on Saturday for a three-day visit on May 24-26.
