Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, suggested that the proposal to increase the retirement age limit for state civil servants (ASN) should be studied first.

"It should be studied further," Maharani said in a statement after meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday.

According to the speaker, one aspect that requires examination is the potential benefits of the proposal for increasing the productivity of ASNs.

"What is important is how ASN can be more effective in serving the community. Hence, has the study been done and what is its basis?" she stressed.

The House speaker emphasized the need for a proper study so that if approved in the future, it will not burden the state budget (APBN).

Earlier, Chairperson of the Indonesian Civil Servants Corps (Korpri) management board Zudan Arif Fakrulloh stated that Korpri had officially proposed raising the retirement age limit for ASN to the president, the DPR speaker, and the minister of empowerment of state apparatus and bureaucratic reform (PANRB).

"The proposal aims to encourage the skills and careers of ASN employees. I see that life expectancy is increasing, so it is reasonable to increase the retirement age limit for ASN, both at the structural and functional levels," he stated.
