Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is firm in its commitment to building an inclusive and impactful national research ecosystem that can make significant contributions to public decision-making, according to Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie.

She reaffirmed this commitment during the Workshop for Women in Science Grassroots in Indonesia 2025 at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java, on Tuesday, according to an official statement released here on Wednesday.

"It is crucial to ensure that research is put into practice, rather than ending as mere lab projects. The government is striving for the integration of research projects into policies and industrial applications to bring about sustainable and far-reaching impacts," she said.

She then highlighted that her ministry has taken several strategic corresponding measures to translate research into practical applications and increase Indonesian women's representation in scientific fields.

The deputy minister stressed that research should not be seen as mere academic work but as an instrument for tangible progress in society.

In this regard, she spotlighted her ministry's ongoing work on a digital system, or portal, designed to map researchers and experts across Indonesia.

"We aim to use this national portal to fast-track collaboration among scientists, the government, and industry actors. Such collaboration is key to leveraging our research projects as effective tools for driving national development," she said.

On gender equality, Christie emphasized the need to ensure that women have the same opportunities to make their mark in the world of science.

"Women tend to face unique challenges in scientific fields. Hence, we are pushing for policies that can provide women with sufficient access to research opportunities, capacity building, and decision-making processes," she informed.
