Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has identified three key transformation areas in its upcoming strategic plan for the development of higher education in the country.

"In the near future, the ministry will formulate a new strategic plan," said Khairul Munadi, Director General of Higher Education, on Sunday.

The plan will focus on three main agendas: strengthening institutional autonomy, promoting impactful research and innovation, and emphasizing science and technology for sustainable socio-economic transformation.

On the topic of autonomy, Munadi highlighted the importance of strengthening campus governance. He explained that autonomy is not merely about freedom, but about the responsibility to build accountable, adaptive, and innovative institutions.

"Without flexibility in managing academic programs, utilizing assets, and raising funds, it will be difficult for campuses to grow," he said.

Regarding research, Munadi stressed that university research should address real societal challenges. While academic publications remain important, he argued that research outcomes must also be transformed into practical solutions that benefit the public directly.

He also emphasized the need for science and technology to play a more active role in driving socio-ecological transformation—reflecting the deep interconnection between humans, nature, and economic systems.

"Therefore, it is essential to adopt an integrative approach to tackle climate crises, digital disruption, and social inequality," he added.

In 2025, the government will continue the Smart Indonesia Card for Higher Education (KIP-Kuliah) program to promote equitable access to higher education and ensure the aid reaches those who need it most.
