Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry for Migrant Workers Protection will prioritize developing spa therapy as a promising field for placing migrant workers in the hospitality sector.

This initiative was conveyed by Deputy Minister for Migrant Workers Protection, Christina Aryani, during a visit to several job training institutions (LPKs) in Bali, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

“Based on input from the Indonesian ambassadors I’ve met, the spa therapy sector is one we need to take seriously,” Aryani said.

She explained that one of the ministry’s strategies is to visit training centers that specialize in professional spa therapy, such as Mandara Spa Training Centre, Nirvana Bali Spa, and Bali Saraswati Spa Academy.

Aryani said the visits aim to observe the training process, review the curriculum, and assess the placement success of graduates.

“We want those who complete training to be ready for international employment, not just roles in domestic hotels,” she emphasized.

In addition to these visits, Aryani mentioned plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to enhance the global branding of Indonesian spa therapy.

She noted that Thailand currently leads in international spa branding.

“Indonesia should also be able to seize this opportunity. Stronger branding and more strategic government efforts are needed,” she stated.

Aryani also urged hospitality-focused LPKs to include purpose-specific language training in their curricula, tailored to the requirements of destination countries.

“Foreign language proficiency is essential for meeting the needs of the global labor market, such as in Japan and English-speaking countries,” she emphasized.
