Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto conveyed this in response to the recent U.S. government policy regarding the suspension of visa issuance for international students and the halting of all student visa interview processes at U.S. embassies worldwide.
"We will communicate with leading international universities in various countries to explore the possibility of relocating students to other countries. We are also coordinating with domestic universities for the same possibilities,” Yuliarto noted in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
Yuliarto emphasized that the Indonesian government will take an active role and implement strategic measures to ensure Indonesian students affected by this policy can continue their education.
"We also urge students who are already in the U.S. not to leave the country in order to avoid difficulties when re-entering," he stressed.
The ministry will take several concrete and intensive steps, including monitoring and coordinating with relevant stakeholders, such as both international and domestic universities, as well as scholarship providers, to ensure students can continue their studies.
Furthermore, the ministry will gather data on affected students, including their chosen fields of study, education levels, and the status and progress of their visa applications.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology remains fully committed to ensuring that the educational rights of Indonesian students are protected amid the ongoing shifts in international policy.
