Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani has asked the Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) to remain vigilant and provide the best services to Indonesian pilgrims ahead of the Hajj pilgrimage peak.

“The Hajj implementation so far has been going well, and this must be maintained, especially during the Hajj peak phase. Ensure that pilgrims receive the best possible care. Special attention must be given to the elderly,” she said here on Wednesday.

She also praised Indonesian pilgrims for performing the Hajj worship in an orderly manner and lauded Hajj officers for their dedication and continuous service throughout the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

This year’s Hajj peak is expected on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, or June 5, 2025.

It marks the most sacred stage of the pilgrimage, starting with wukuf (stand and be present) in Arafah, followed by mabit or overnight stay in Muzdalifah and Mina, where pilgrims perform jumrah or the symbolic stoning of the devil.

Maharani said she expects all preparations for the Hajj peak season, for example, tent arrangements for mabit, to be maximal.

“The peak of Hajj is the most crucial phase, both spiritually and physically, and considering the extreme weather and high crowd density,” she added.

To ensure a smooth and problem-free pilgrimage, the House Speaker advised key actions such as prioritizing health risk mitigation for pilgrims, adapting to the new multi-syarikah system, and conducting evaluations for future improvements.

According to Maharani, early mitigation and a proactive approach are necessary to prevent severe fatigue, dehydration, and heatstroke among pilgrims, which are very likely while performing Hajj in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina.
