Jakarta (ANTARA) - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya announced that President Prabowo Subianto will oversee the inaugural export of corn from Bengkayang District in West Kalimantan to Malaysia on Thursday.

"(The president will export corn) to Malaysia," Wijaya told ANTARA in a written message received in Jakarta on Thursday.

Wijaya earlier remarked that the president, accompanied by National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, would attend a corn harvest in Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, on Thursday.

"Polri chief will also join the president's working visit to West Kalimantan to review the corn harvest," he remarked.

The president is scheduled to depart from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Thursday morning to attend the harvest event, which will also be held simultaneously in several regions.

The Polri chief is in Bengkayang to review the readiness for the harvest. Based on available information, the president will launch the first export of corn harvested from Bengkayang in West Kalimantan to Kuching in Malaysia.

This marks a significant milestone for West Kalimantan's agricultural sector, as it is the first time locally produced corn will be exported.

In addition, the president is scheduled to inaugurate the "Pangan Merah Putih" Corn Warehouse and Dryer Factory facility located on Jalan Bukit Tinggi in Sebalo Village, Bengkayang.

The facility has a storage capacity of up to 5,000 tons, with a drying capacity of up to 300 tons per day. This facility is projected to serve as a distribution center for local corn, strengthen downstreaming of commodities, and increase the economic value of West Kalimantan's agricultural sector.
