Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia has prepared at least 27,000 tons of corn for export, scheduled for mid-June this year.

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman announced the plan during an event in Jakarta on Friday celebrating the government’s success in securing 4 million tons of rice reserves.

He said that three regions are planning to export corn next month, though only one has confirmed the volume—27,000 tons.

In addition to corn, the minister said Indonesia aims to increase export revenues from coconuts.

Sulaiman highlighted that coconut is a strategic commodity in which Indonesia has a comparative advantage, as not all countries are able to grow it.

He also noted that coconut prices have risen significantly in recent months.

Despite the export push, the government remains committed to meeting domestic needs first.

"In essence, we must first focus on improving people's welfare and maintaining national food security before proceeding with exports," Sulaiman emphasized.

The government has also approved the export of 2,000 tons of rice per month to Malaysia.

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit Bengkayang District, West Kalimantan, in early June to attend a mass rice harvest event.
