Sahat Manaor Panggabean, head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), said he and China’s Minister of the General Administration of Customs (GACC), Sun Meijin, agreed upon and signed a protocol for exporting Indonesian frozen durian to China.
“The protocol’s ratification coincided with Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s visit to Indonesia, during which he was received by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on May 25,” Panggabean said in a statement issued on Thursday.
He added that the frozen durian export protocol was mutually agreed with GACC, which has designated Barantin to oversee the export process.
“Packing houses for frozen durian exports to China must meet the Plant Quarantine Installation standards set by Barantin,” he emphasized.
Additionally, Barantin will issue phytosanitary certificates to guarantee traceability, covering records from durian orchards to packing houses.
Panggabean noted that businesses, exporters, and local governments have welcomed the establishment of the export protocol, which successfully opened China’s market to Indonesian frozen durian.
“This export protocol emphasizes traceability, ensuring every stage of production—from orchard cultivation to shipment readiness—can be monitored and tracked,” he explained.
“With this export access, we aim to create a conducive investment climate in the horticulture sector and generate foreign exchange income to improve the welfare of Indonesian farmers,” he said.
