Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Finland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas, particularly energy transition, the environment, and education.

This commitment was expressed by Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, during a courtesy call from Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia, Pekka Kaihilahti, in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to a statement from Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, Sugiono also encouraged Finland to increase its investment in Indonesia, especially in sectors such as green energy, education, healthcare, digital infrastructure, and sustainable development.

Finland is known for its global leadership in energy transition, environmental sustainability, and education—fields that align with Indonesia’s current development priorities.

Trade and investment were also discussed during the meeting. Over the past two years, economic ties between the two nations have strengthened. In 2024, Finland's investment in Indonesia reached US$22.2 million (approximately Rp362 billion), covering 119 projects.

Sugiono also stressed the importance of Indonesia's partnership with Finland in multilateral forums and expressed hope for Finland’s support in Indonesia’s bid to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

On June 3, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that Indonesia had submitted its Initial Memorandum (IM) to OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann at the 2025 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) in Paris, France.
