The four affected companies are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, speaking in a press conference at the President's Office in Jakarta on Tuesday, stated that President Prabowo Subianto made the decision during a meeting with several ministers in Bogor, West Java, on Monday.
"He decided that the government would revoke the mining business permits of four companies operating in Raja Ampat District," he remarked.
He also noted that since January 2025, the government has issued a presidential regulation on forest area enforcement, which covers businesses based on natural resources and mining businesses.
Earlier, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the mining business permit for PT Gag Nikel, which had been operating in Raja Ampat since 2018, would not be revoked.
Nevertheless, he explained that PT Gag Nikel's nickel mining activities had been temporarily halted as of June 5 due to protests from environmental activists and the public.
"The production activities have been stopped while we await the results of our team's review and verification," the minister stated at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (June 5).
Greenpeace Indonesia, a non-profit organization, reported that mining activities on five small islands of Raja Ampat have damaged over 500 hectares of forests and put local coral reefs at risk.
These mining activities are also considered to have violated the Law on Coastal and Small Islands Management.
