"I am convinced that Indonesia has great potential to produce talented para-athletes," Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said here on Tuesday.
"The development of this paralympic training center is expected to help our para-athletes hone their skills in a more optimal and structured way," he added.
The training center is located in Delingan village at the foot of Mount Lawu. The facility was constructed between December 2023 and December 2024 using Rp421.9 billion (approximately US$26 million) from the State Budget.
The sports complex spans 80,262 square meters, with the building coverage totaling 34,346 square meters. This includes a 17,482-square-meter sports arena building and a 16,864-square-meter dormitory.
The dormitory comprises two four-story towers of flats with a total of 188 rooms, which can accommodate up to 392 athletes.
The training center is also equipped with a main swimming pool, warm-up and recovery pools, and facilities dedicated to boccia, shooting, table tennis, wheelchair table tennis, badminton, weightlifting, and blind judo.
Additionally, the sports hub encompasses a football field, tracks for long jump and high jump, a shot-put area, and a multipurpose room.
Maulidya Indah Junica, director general of strategic infrastructure at the Public Works Ministry, assured the public that all the modern facilities meet international standards.
She added that besides training national athletes, the complex could support joint training programs with multinational talents.
"We are also planning the second phase of development, which will focus on building an additional sports arena building and dormitory to expand capacity and serve more sports," she informed.
