Head of the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Office (Dispora), Andri Yansyah, conveyed the government's readiness to provide real benefits, such as sports facilities, if a sports discipline records extraordinary achievements, particularly by exceeding the medal target at national events.
"One of our appreciations is the construction and renovation of venues. For example athletics, this year, Rawamangun stadium was completely renovated. Insyaallah, it will be completed in October or November (2025)," he informed in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said that swimming was the first sport to be given special attention after the Jakarta team won a record 23 gold medals at POMNAS 2024, surpassing the two-decade record of 21 golds.
Yansyah assured that in response to this achievement, an international standard swimming pool would be built next year.
This is a form of serious support from the regional government for athlete development, he added.
"Later, the sports facilities can also be utilized by athletes who are participating in regional training camps, including athletes with disabilities," he said.
He added that Jakarta is looking at archery next. The sport will be contested at POMNAS for the first time this year, with 21 athletes in the fray.
He informed that if the archery team shows achievements and emerges as the overall champion, the provincial government will look for an impressive and more representative training site.
It is also committed to building disability-friendly sports facilities. For instance, in 2026, it will build an inclusive sports complex at the Cendrawasih GOR for 16 sports disciplines, including swimming.
"This is not just about the facilities, but a part of a high strategy to build a professional, sustainable, and inclusive sports ecosystem. We encourage athletes to continue to excel and the government (is) present to provide concrete support," he said.
