Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, has urged the industry and academia to help build the digital competencies of the youth to tackle global economic competition.

“We invite the industry to actively participate in the implementation of programs through teaching or mentorship, providing infrastructure for practitioners, learning and training facilities, and opportunities for the Indonesian young generation,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“For academia, universities also serve as the backbone of this transformation,” he added.

The minister said that universities and research institutions have a major responsibility to transform into centers of excellence in digital research.

“We need to expand the development of smart campus initiatives with advanced digital infrastructure, smart learning environments, and fully integrated innovation laboratories,” he stressed.

“However, physical and social transformation alone is not enough: we need a revolution in the way we think and (in) our education,” he added.

He said that teachers must adapt to technological advances by using teaching methodologies that effectively incorporate technology and continuous assessment to measure digital competencies and their alignment with industry needs.

Meanwhile, deputy for education quality improvement coordination at the coordinating ministry, Ojat Darojat, said that the government is currently working to build new digital talent capacity by establishing a task force involving stakeholders from academia and industry practitioners.

The task force is currently preparing a road map for future artificial intelligence (AI) development, including appropriate models or schemes for human resource development in the AI era.

“We are currently formulating a road map for how the future development of AI can truly become a tool for human resource development in Indonesia,” Darajot informed.
