Transmigration Minister Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara said that the Patriot Scholarships will cover undergraduate to doctoral programs at domestic and foreign universities.
“This program aims to educate and empower a new generation of leaders who will shape and manage these (transmigration) regions with vision and integrity,” he said here on Wednesday.
The Patriot Scholarship participants will empower local communities by helping them optimize the potential and resources of each transmigration area.
However, before implementing the Patriot Scholarship program, the Ministry of Transmigration will deploy patriot expedition teams later this year.
The teams, which will consist of academics and scholars, will carry out field research and determine the potential and resources that can be developed in each region.
“They will go deep into the field, identifying strategic sectors, natural resources, cultural assets, and infrastructure opportunities, to lay the foundations for future investments and sustainable development, to map what is possible, and to pave the way for those who dare to act,” he said.
So far, the participants of the patriot expedition have come from seven of Indonesia’s top universities, he informed.
They are the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), IPB University, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), University of Indonesia (UI), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Diponegoro University (Undip), and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS).
“Not only acting as researchers, the patriot expedition teams will also be mentors and companions for Patriot Scholarship participants. The plan is to prepare two thousand patriot expedition participants this year,” he informed.
The minister said that the attempt is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s call for investing in Indonesia’s human capital.
The government is targeting to build 200 Sekolah Rakyat each year for vulnerable children, renovate 11 thousand schools nationwide, as well as grant 10 thousand scholarships for medical degrees.
It will offer another 10 thousand scholarships for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees.
“Because the true infrastructure of a nation is its people. This is the future of transmigration. Not just relocating people, but relocating potential purposes and prosperity,” Suryanagara added.
