Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Ministry stated that the presence of nutritious food yards in communities is highly beneficial, including reducing food spending, especially for poor people.

"Nutritious food yards contribute to availability and access, which means reducing dependence on the market, and reducing the burden of shopping, especially for the poor," Director General of Development of Disadvantaged Regions Nugroho Setijo Nagoro stated.

Nagoro made these remarks at a webinar titled "Strengthening Nutritious Food Yards (P2B) in the Framework of Supporting Food Security in Villages," which was monitored online in Jakarta on Monday.

He emphasized the importance of continuing education and strengthening the community's ability to process nutritious food yards so that people can produce food independently.

Besides reducing expenses, he affirmed that food yards can encourage people, especially in villages, to adopt the habit of consuming nutritious foods.

"It also contributes to encouraging the consumption of nutritious, balanced, and safe food," he remarked.

Nagoro earlier stated that food security was one of President Prabowo Subianto's main priorities. The government is working to build food security, as it offers myriad important benefits, including enabling people to be active, receiving a good education, and maintaining their health.

"If there is no food, you cannot be active. Without enough food or a lack of it, one cannot learn well. Lack of food is certainly unhealthy," he pointed out.

In essence, he said, ongoing efforts to build food security will determine the quality of Indonesia's human resources (SDM) in the future.

Nagoro also cited the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) policy as an example of the government's commitment to building food security in Indonesia.
