"Proper disaster management, including (the management of) climate change, can prevent economic losses of up to US$17.3 billion by 2024," deputy for regional development at the ministry, Medrilzam, said in a statement received here on Thursday.
He informed that Bappenas, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and regional governments are currently synchronizing the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD) for the 2025–2029 period.
The synchronization is being carried out through a series of national and regional consultation forums on disaster management.
One of the forums took place during a coaching clinic to accelerate the implementation of minimum service standards (SPM) for disaster sub-affairs in Makassar city, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday.
During the activity, various parties from eastern Indonesia shared disaster risk reduction practices followed in their regions with a team from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
Medrilzam expressed the hope that the activity would help align the disaster element integration strategy with regional development planning, so that mitigation and preparedness efforts can run more effectively and sustainably.
On the same occasion, director of disaster and fire management at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Edy Suharmanto, outlined the strategy for strengthening the implementation of SPM sub-disaster affairs through the Disaster Resilient Sub-District Program.
The program aims to accelerate the achievement of disaster services based on the risk profile of each sub-district.
Suharmanto emphasized the importance of the active role of sub-districts in building local disaster resilience. This approach is considered crucial for strengthening cross-sectoral and cross-level government collaboration.
The activity was supported by the Australian government through the Siap Siaga Program, which is the result of a strategic partnership between Indonesia and Australia.
Australian Consul-General Todd Dias said the collaboration is expected to strengthen the capacity of local governments to develop more adaptive and sustainable disaster management strategies.
