“We are striving to ensure every citizen has equal access and opportunity to (get) quality education,” he said in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Saturday.
He added that the ministry’s goal to provide quality education services aligns with the mandate of the Constitution.
To improve educational services, the ministry has decided to revitalize and renovate more than 11 thousand educational institutions across Indonesia this year. It has allocated a budget of Rp16.9 trillion (approximately US$1.03 billion) for the purpose.
The minister said that, under President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, his ministry has also initiated the digitalization of education by distributing 300 thousand smart boards in stages to schools across the country.
This digitalization effort has also involved teacher training and preparation of learning materials for the smart classroom program.
Mu’ti affirmed that several regions, such as those in Gorontalo, East Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan, have implemented the smart classroom program independently.
Furthermore, the government is prioritizing the improvement of teachers’ quality and welfare.
This year, the government is providing financial aid to teachers pursuing a bachelor’s degree, with kindergarten and early childhood education teachers given priority.
Under the program, each teacher will receive a maximum of Rp3 million (approximately US$184.39) in aid per semester.
The minister further said that to improve teachers’ welfare, 315 thousand contract teachers across the country will receive an assistance of Rp300 thousand (approximately US$18.44) per month from July.
In addition, teachers are required to participate in training programs to improve their professional competency.
“Teachers’ training can be funded by the school’s operational assistance,” Minister Mu'ti added.
