Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Two Australian nationals were shot by an unidentified assailant inside a villa in Badung, Bali, in the early hours of Saturday, according to local police.

Badung Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) M. Arif Batubara, said the victims, identified by their initials ZR and SG, were both staying at the same villa.

“We are still investigating the crime scene and speaking to potential witnesses,” Batubara said in a statement.

ZR was pronounced dead following the shooting, while SG is receiving treatment at Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar.

“Based on an initial report, ZR has passed away. The other victim is not seriously injured, though there may be some bruising,” Batubara added.

He said officers from both the Badung Police and the Bali Regional Police are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, and the full chronology of events has yet to be confirmed.

“The shooting occurred inside a villa. We’re still working to determine the motive and other details. Once the investigation is complete, we will share more information,” Batubara said.
