He then expressed optimism that Indonesia will fully eliminate malaria.
In a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, he affirmed that as a special advisor to the APLMA, he is committed to supporting Indonesia’s anti-malaria push by forging collaboration with global organizations in the fight against malaria worldwide.
While the biggest challenges lie in the African region, countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia, must remain vigilant, he said.
“Malaria is not only a health issue but also a humanitarian and justice issue. The Global Malaria Elimination Council has set the global malaria elimination target for 2030, which is just five years away. We hope the world can achieve this target through solid cooperation,” he expounded.
SBY acknowledged that malaria elimination is no easy task. It requires strong financing, cross-country coordination, and active public participation.
He said he is confident that all challenges can be overcome through cooperation and innovation.
“Remember, there is always a way out and a solution to overcome these challenges,” he added.
He also expressed his appreciation to all international partners for providing tangible support to Indonesia in its malaria eradication efforts.
“I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to all international partners, international organizations, and all parties who have provided real support to Indonesia,” Yudhoyono said.
He then reaffirmed his continued support for the Indonesian government and commitment to working with the global community to end malaria worldwide.
He also expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, the national malaria elimination target will be achieved.
“I trust and have full confidence in the government of Indonesia under the leadership of President Prabowo and Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin. I am confident we can achieve this mission," he affirmed.
