Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of Kemlu, Judha Nugraha, stated in an online press briefing in Jakarta, Wednesday, that 42 Indonesian pilgrims in Jerusalem, Israel, had returned to Indonesia after first traveling by land to Jordan.
"Then we also noted that there were eight Hajj pilgrims, Indonesian citizens from England, who were also stranded in Amman, and they have also returned to England," Nugraha revealed.
The PWNI director noted that two Indonesian pilgrims in Iran were able to leave the country by land to Pakistan to return to Indonesia.
Nugraha further explained that his team had held an online meeting with Indonesian citizens in Iran to check on their condition and to communicate the contingency steps prepared by the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the central government.
"We can say that the status is indeed alert level two, but we always appeal to Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant and always monitor the existing situation,” he stated.
“If there is an escalation, we can increase it to alert level one and then carry out the evacuation process," he noted.
Nugraha also appealed to all Indonesian citizens in Iran and Israel to always increase their vigilance and monitor updates from official government sources and the Indonesian Embassy.
He also appealed to Indonesian citizens to abstain from leaving their homes for non-essential matters and to immediately contact the Indonesian Embassy hotlines in Amman and Tehran in case of emergencies.
"For Indonesian citizens who have travel plans to Iran, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, or Yemen, we suggest that they postpone their travel, as in these countries, the Indonesian representatives have set an alert status," he explained.
Nugraha also advised Indonesian citizens with flight plans passing through the Middle East to regularly check the latest flight schedules with their airlines, as changes in airspace status may disrupt flights.
