Head of the UI’s cooperation and entrepreneurship body, Nia Ayu Ismaniati, emphasized that UI is an inclusive academic institution that welcomes international students from several countries, provided that they meet its academic and administrative requirements.
“We will weigh the Zimbabwean government’s request for increased student quota. However, for that, we will need to assess the competency and study performance of the students currently enrolled,” she said at the university in Depok, West Java, on Wednesday.
Currently, a total of 21 Zimbabwean students are enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs across various faculties at UI.
The students are recipients of several scholarships, including UI Great, the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) Scholarship, and the Indonesian Aid Scholarship.
Ismaniati added that UI is open to strengthening cooperation with the African country in programs designed for faculty members, such as lecturer exchange initiatives and joint research projects.
Meanwhile, deputy chief secretary to the President and Cabinet of Zimbabwe, Zvinechimwe Ruvinga Churu, praised UI for offering Zimbabwean students the opportunity to access high-quality education.
He spoke highly of the university’s academic climate, saying that it has allowed Zimbabwean students to adapt well to both campus life and local Indonesian culture.
“We are hopeful that the quota for international students will be expanded, as this will help us accelerate the actualization of equitable access to education while enhancing the quality of human resources in Zimbabwe,” he added.
