Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has officiated the establishment of 10 new Islamic universities throughout Indonesia, from Lhokseumawe to Ambon, through a Presidential Regulation signed on May 8, 2025.

According to a copy of the document received on Thursday, the universities are spread across Bengkalis, Ambon, Palopo, Palangka Raya, Lampung, Lhokseumawe, Ponorogo, Kediri, Kudus, and Madura.

The establishment of these campuses demonstrates the government's effort to transform Islamic higher education in the regions by changing the names and status of previously established Islamic educational institutions.

The 10 universities are:

1. Madura State Islamic University, East Java, formerly Madura State Islamic Institute, according to Presidential Decree Number 52 of 2025.

2. Sunan Kudus State Islamic University, Central Java, formerly Kudus State Islamic Institute, as per Presidential Decree Number 53 of 2025.

3. Syekh Wasil State University of Kediri, East Java, formerly Kediri State Islamic Institute, according to Presidential Decree Number 54 of 2025.

4. Kiai Ageng Muhammad Besari Islamic University of Ponorogo, East Java, formerly Ponorogo State Islamic Institute, as per Presidential Decree Number 55 of 2025.

5. Sultanah Nahrasiyah State Islamic University of Lhokseumawe, Aceh Province, earlier Lhokseumawe State Islamic Institute, according to Presidential Decree Number 56 of 2025.

6. Jurai Siwo State Islamic University of Lampung, formerly Metro State Islamic Institute, Lampung, as per Presidential Decree Number 57 of 2025.

7. Palangkaraya State University, Central Kalimantan, formerly Palangkaraya State Islamic Institute, based on Presidential Decree Number 58 of 2025.

8. Palopo State Islamic University, South Sulawesi, earlier Palopo State Islamic Institute, as per Presidential Decree Number 59 of 2025.

9. Abdul Muthalib Sangadji State Islamic University of Ambon, Maluku Province, formerly Ambon State Islamic Institute, based on Presidential Decree Number 60 of 2025.

10. Datuk Laksemana State Islamic Institute of Bengkalis, Riau, formerly Bengkalis State Islamic College, as per Presidential Decree Number 62 of 2025.

This move reflects the government's commitment to expanding access to higher education for developing quality human resources.

"To meet the demands of developments in science and technology and the process of integrating Islamic religious knowledge with other sciences and realizing quality human resources, it is necessary to stipulate a Presidential Regulation on Islamic State Universities," as quoted in the Presidential Regulation.

This policy also aligns with the vision to transform the national education sector by building more universities, including those in the religious field, and to strengthen Indonesian civilization to become more advanced and globally competitive.
