He also underlined the importance of cooperation between Indonesia and Canada in responding to global challenges, especially climate change.
Collaboration in strategic issues, such as environmental resilience, social justice, and sustainable development, will be a strong basis for future partnerships, he added.
“Climate action requires bravery, and social justice needs fortitude. Economic growth demands partnerships,” Pratikno said in an official statement released in Jakarta on Thursday.
He expressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Indonesian diaspora in Canada, which has become a cultural bridge and strengthened people-to-people relations.
The minister also lauded Canada’s commitment to the values of democracy and multiculturalism, saying that Canada has become a global inspiration by proving that differences are strengths, not weaknesses.
“Indonesia extends its warmest regards to Canada. We share the same goal, namely unity in diversity,” he said.
Indonesia and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1952. This year, they mark 73 years of friendly ties, which are expected to continue to grow, particularly with the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
The signing of the CEPA in 2024 marked a new era of economic cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries.
“Canada believes in the power of the people, and so does Indonesia. Together, we empower communities, preserve culture, protect the vulnerable, and fight for human rights,” the minister said.
