St. Petersburg (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is seeking to increase the number of Indonesian students studying in Russia through scholarships from the government.

“We have reached many new agreements, and we particularly want to increase the number of young Indonesians studying in Russia with scholarships provided by the Indonesian government,” he stated at a press conference after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Konstantinovsky Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.

President Prabowo described his meeting with Putin as warm and productive. The two countries discussed cooperation in various sectors, including trade and investment.

He also highlighted that Indonesia is opening opportunities to increase the number of direct flights from Russia to various cities in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, President Putin remarked that Russia and Indonesia continue to strengthen cooperation in the fields of science and culture.

Putin stated that Russian language learning centers have been opened in Jakarta and Bali and that more than 500 Indonesians are currently studying in Russia.

On that occasion, President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome from the Russian government on his first state visit to the country since being inaugurated as Indonesian President.

He emphasized that the visit is an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Russian Federation.

"This year, we celebrate the 75th year of diplomatic relations. The Russian Federation is always an important partner for Indonesia in politics, economy, social, and culture," he affirmed.

Prabowo also recalled his previous meeting with President Putin in July 2024, during which he also received a warm welcome from the Russian Government.

President Prabowo is on a visit to St. Petersburg on June 18-20, during which he is scheduled to meet President Putin on Thursday and attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 on Friday.
