The team personnel remain on standby in Jakarta and are ready for deployment if required, Head of the TNI Headquarters' Information Center Maj. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi, noted in a statement issued on Thursday.
However, Sianturi stated that he could not yet provide details about when or where the team personnel would be deployed for the evacuation mission, given the ongoing escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict.
"For the TNI, protecting Indonesian citizens within and outside the country is part of constitutional duties that will always be prioritized on account of national interests," Sianturi remarked.
Regarding the evacuation plan, the major general said the Foreign Ministry revealed that 115 of 386 Indonesian nationals in Iran, and 11 out of 192 Indonesians in Israel are preparing for evacuation.
"The evacuees are mostly students who live in vulnerable areas of the Iran-Israel conflict," he noted, adding that the evacuees in Iran are scheduled to depart for Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday at 7 a.m. local time.
After arriving in Baku, the evacuees will stay for two nights before taking a commercial flight to Jakarta on Sunday, June 22, while those in Israel would be evacuated by air to Indonesia via Amman, Jordan, he stated.
The Iran-Israel war erupted and has continued to escalate after Tel Aviv launched surprise attacks on Tehran's nuclear sites and military facilities on Friday, June 13, 2025.
In response to Israel's attacks and killings of several Iranian top brass, Tehran launched its retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets on Friday evening local time.
IRNA quoted a senior Iranian military official, General Ahmad Vahidi, as saying that the retaliatory strikes, known as "Operation True Promise 3," would "continue for as long as necessary."
Following the Israeli strikes on Iran, the Indonesian government condemned the actions, stating they violated international law and undermined its very foundation.
The Nahdlatul Ulama central executive board (PBNU) also condemned the attacks and urged the United Nations to take decisive action to de-escalate the conflict.
