"In line with Garut's vision to be excellent and advanced, this will be supported by strong MSMEs and a resilient economy," Economic, Financial, and Development Expert Staff to the Garut Regent, Nia Gania Karyana, stated on Friday (June 20).
She explained that the Garut administration has initiated various programs focused on empowering the youth to develop an entrepreneurial spirit across multiple business sectors.
According to Karyana, these initiatives include providing access to capital through banks, organizing regular networking events among business players, and offering entrepreneurial education and training.
In addition, Gania noted that the local government is implementing institutional support and licensing programs, encouraging private companies to increase their contributions through corporate social responsibility (CSR), and providing grant assistance for business facilities.
"These efforts include simplifying licensing regulations, coaching business actors, and supporting investment through accessible financing," she stated.
Gania highlighted one of the recent initiatives —the 2025 "Youth Preneurship" seminar— which brought together young entrepreneurs in Garut to inspire them with knowledge and motivation to grow their businesses.
She affirmed that the event aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among the younger generation, enabling them to eventually create job opportunities for others.
"We hope entrepreneurship continues to grow and flourish in Garut Regency and helps build a self-reliant and innovative economic ecosystem," she stated.
In addition to the "Youth Preneurship" 2025 seminar, the local government also held a talk show as part of the "Upgrading MSMEs" program. The event discussed various topics, including job creation, financial literacy, banking access, and digitalization.
Data from the Garut Office of Cooperatives and MSMEs shows that there are 601 thousand MSME players in the region. However, only 134,548 of them currently have a Business Identification Number (NIB), which is required to access government programs, including bank financing support.
